Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the NUCS PhD programme, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Qualification Minimum Marks
1-year/2-semester Master’s degree after a 4-year Bachelor’s degree 55% in aggregate
2-year/4-semester Master’s degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree 55% in aggregate
4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree 75% in aggregate
M.Phil. (completed before 26th Dec 2023) 55% in aggregate
  • Equivalent qualifications recognized by statutory regulatory bodies are also accepted.
  • Reservations are offered as per Government of Telangana norms.

Admission Process

The admission process involves the following steps:

  1. NUCS PhD Admission Test (NPAT)
    • Structure: Two parts, 120 marks total, no negative marking.
      • Part I (General Aptitude): 60 MCQs (60 marks, 60 minutes). Covers reading comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, and data interpretation.
      • Part II (Specialization Specific): 60 MCQs (60 marks). Based on the chosen research area.
    • Exemption: Candidates with NET, SET, GATE, M.Phil., or other eligible fellowships are exempt from NPAT. However, those applying for the NUCS Doctoral Fellowship (NDF) must appear for NPAT.
  2. Personal Interview
    • Conducted by a panel of experts.
    • Candidates must present a short research proposal highlighting their research area, its importance, and uniqueness.
    • Evaluation criteria include research problem articulation, subject understanding, and potential contribution.
    • Weightage: NPAT (70%), Interview (30%).
    • Minimum 50% marks required in both NPAT and interview separately.
  3. Final Selection
    • Based on NPAT/interview performance, research aptitude, and availability of supervisors.
    • Merely meeting the minimum marks does not guarantee admission.

Fellowship and Financial Support

NUCS offers the NUCS Doctoral Fellowship (NDF) for full-time PhD scholars, including:

  • Monthly Stipend: Paid for 3 years.
  • Contingency Grant: Reimbursed for expenses like conference presentations, books, software, etc., subject to limits.
  • Work Commitment: Scholars must undertake 4-6 hours of university-assigned work per week.

The NPAT syllabus is divided into two papers:
